Our Commitment
Inclusion is at the heart of our mission. We are committed to making this website usable by people with disabilities, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, voice control, or screen magnification, and we continue to improve it as we add new content.
Standards We Follow
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with a wide range of disabilities.
Accessibility Features
- Semantic headings, landmarks, and lists that make pages easy to navigate with assistive technology.
- Descriptive labels on form fields, buttons, and icon-only links such as social media icons.
- Full keyboard support, with a visible focus outline on links, buttons, and form fields.
- Text alternatives for meaningful images; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Responsive layouts that work when zoomed up to 200% and on phones and tablets.
- Clear error messages on forms that identify the fields that need attention.
Known Limitations
Despite our efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible:
- Some downloadable reports and older PDF documents may not be fully tagged for screen readers. Accessible versions are available on request.
- Third-party content, such as the Google Maps embed on our Contact page, is outside our direct control. Our office addresses are always listed in text as well.
- Some photos with text overlays may have lower contrast at certain screen sizes.
Events & Programs
We choose accessible venues for our events whenever possible. If you need an accommodation — such as wheelchair access, a sign language interpreter, captioning, or materials in large print — please let us know at least 7 days before the event and we will do our best to arrange it. Volunteer roles can also be adapted; mention any needs in your volunteer application.
Alternative Ways to Engage
If any part of this website is difficult to use, our team can help you directly. You can make a donation, register for an event, apply to volunteer, or request any document by phone at +1 (212) 555-0120 (Monday to Friday, 9AM–6PM EST) or by email at hello@hopeinaction.org.
Feedback & Assistance
We welcome your feedback. If you run into an accessibility barrier, please tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and the assistive technology you use. We aim to respond within 2 business days.
